Data Science Manager, Data Scientist
Data is at the heart of ENGIE’s mission to provide its sustainable energy clients with superior insights for making strategic, actionable trading and dispatch decisions. Every day, Global Market Analysis forecasts hundreds of millions of individual data points on the electric grid using hybrid AI/physical models.
To power this mission, we are looking for a motivated Energy Data Scientist eager to contribute to our forecasting platform across markets and timescales. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, detail‑oriented, and eager to learn, with a strong foundation in analytical thinking and an interest in applying statistical and computational tools to real‑world energy systems.
This position will be fast‑paced and hands‑on, providing opportunities to develop technical skills and industry knowledge while contributing to improving our forecasts and operations. Day‑to‑day tasks will be varied, and the candidate will work closely with experienced team members to build skills and deliver impact.
Responsibilities- Analyze data, support model development, and evaluate model performance to help generate business intelligence and forecast electricity prices.
- Work with trading teams to help interpret forecasts and promote integration and adoption.
- Collaborate with senior team members to assess forecast quality and support development of evaluation methodologies.
- Collaborate with team members to expand forecasting capabilities across various timescales and U.S. and global markets including PJM, SPP, and CAISO.
- Leverage data analysis to identify areas for improvement in probabilistic price forecasts and assist in designing experiments to test enhancements.
- Support development of production‑level code for model backtesting and execution in cloud environments.
- Contribute to model development by combining statistical approaches, machine learning, and domain knowledge under guidance from senior team members.
- Work with internal machine learning pipelines and tools using Python, Dagster, and team‑developed libraries.
- Assist with input data acquisition, evaluation, and cleaning.
- Bachelor of Science in engineering, data science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in data science, analytics, or a related field (internships and academic projects considered).
- Strong foundational problem‑solving skills and willingness to learn quickly.
- Familiarity with linear algebra, statistics, and basic machine learning concepts.
- Exposure to uncertainty quantification and statistical analysis (coursework or projects acceptable).
- Interest in probabilistic thinking and model evaluation.
- Interest in electricity markets, energy systems, or trading.
- Experience with Python and basic SQL skills.
- Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems with guidance.
- Ability to communicate methods and results clearly, with support from team members.
- Collaborative mindset and eagerness to work in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- This role is eligible for a hybrid work policy; a minimum of 3 days working in the office per week.
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies.
Salary Range: $77,100 – $118,220 USD annually. This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan.
