Position Overview
RSU 18 is looking for an Apple Laptop Technician to join our IT Support team within our K-12 school district. This role will focus on the repair, maintenance, and support of Mac Book laptops and other Apple devices used by students, teachers, and staff. The technician will be responsible for performing annual device maintenance, including laptop collection and inventory management, in addition to providing day-to-day support.
Apple Certification (ACMT) is required within the first 3 months of employment, though it may not be required at the time of hire.
Key Responsibilities Mac Laptop Repairs & Maintenance- Diagnose, repair, and troubleshoot Mac Book laptops, iPads, and other Apple devices.
- Replace defective hardware components such as screens, keyboards, batteries, and logic boards.
- Perform software troubleshooting, macOS reinstallation, software updates, and device configuration.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs and ensure devices are returned in working order.
- Follow district standards for repair quality and completion timelines.
- Oversee the annual collection of district-issued laptops, including managing the logistics of retrieving devices from students and staff.
- Perform routine maintenance, such as cleaning, software updates, and system checks, to ensure devices are ready for the next school year.
- Maintain accurate inventory records, tracking the status of all district-issued devices (including serial numbers, repair histories, and location).
- Work with the IT team to conduct audits of device condition and determine repair or replacement needs.
- Ensure that all collected devices are properly re-imaged, configured, and made ready for redistribution or storage.
- Provide in-person technical support to staff, students, and faculty on Apple laptop and related device issues.
- Assist with hardware setup, configuration, and deployment of new or re-imaged devices.
- Respond to walk-ins at the help desk, offering quick troubleshooting and technical assistance for various issues.
- Educate and guide users on best practices for device care and troubleshooting to prevent recurring issues.
- Answer and resolve help desk tickets related to Apple devices and software via phone, email, or the district’s ticketing system.
- Assist with network connectivity, software installations, and printer setup.
- Escalate more complex issues to senior IT staff or certified technicians as necessary.
- Track and manage the district’s Apple device inventory, including documenting repairs, replacements, and upgrades.
- Collaborate with the IT team to ensure smooth district-wide technology operations.
- Stay current on the latest Apple products, software updates, and best practices for device repairs and support.
- Obtain Apple Certified Mac Technician (ACMT) certification within 2-3 months of employment to meet the role's requirements.
- Assist with staff and student training on the use and maintenance of Apple devices.
- Technical knowledge of Apple hardware, including Mac Book laptops and iPads, and familiarity with macOS.
- Proven troubleshooting skills for both hardware and software issues.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially for managing inventories and maintaining accurate records.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- A high school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree or some college coursework in IT or related fields preferred).
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment up to 25 lbs.
- Apple Certified Mac Technician (ACMT) or willingness to earn certification within 3 months of employment.
- Experience in managing or supporting large-scale device inventories in an educational environment.
- Familiarity with mobile device management (MDM) tools such as JAMF or similar software.
- Experience providing technical support in a K-12 or educational setting.
- Knowledge of general IT support tasks, including networking, printer setup, and device configuration.
- This is a full-time position with a standard workweek, though flexibility may be required during peak periods such as device collection or the beginning of the school year.
- Travel between school campuses is required.
- Evening or weekend hours may be necessary for special projects, events, or urgent support requests.
