Job Description:
The teacher will provide essential academic instruction, as well as develop, implement, and supervise appropriate program-related activities, in an effort to help students develop and demonstrate the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes. Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and competence in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics;
develops students skills and abilities in scientific methods and problem-solving, as well as an understanding of the application of science in the solution of practical problems.
- Valid teacher certificate in field issued by Maryland State Department of Education or eligible for teacher certificate to be issued by the Maryland State Department of Education
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, including, but not limited to, the ability to interact successfully with diverse stakeholders (i.e., students, staff, administration, parents, general public, community agencies, etc.)
- Proficiency in a variety of technology and applications
- Successful management of confidential information and materials
- History of initiative, discretion, leadership, and independent judgment
- Demonstrated understanding of and attention to detail, especially as it relates to student safety and well-being
- History of professionalism and strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently and as a team player
- Ability to serve as a positive role model for students, staff, and other stakeholders
- Ability to maintain emotional control while addressing stressful situations
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, balance, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, push, and pull
- Ability to lift and transport heavy to moderately heavy objects averaging 40-60 lbs.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to use mouse, keyboard, other appropriate technology, and instructional manipulatives
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Advanced Professional Certificate/License issued by the Maryland State Department of Education
- Master's Degree, or higher, in applicable field from an accredited college or university
- Minimum three (3) years of teaching
- Prefer dual certification in another academic area(s) including one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics, issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.

- Prepare lessons, assignments, and instructional materials.
- Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of science to everyday existence, including scientific research projects, demonstrations, experiments, and laboratory activities.
- Establish clear goals and learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development.
- Instructs students in the proper use and care of scientific equipment, chemicals, and plant and animal life.
- Prepare, administer, and correct assessments and record results.
- Select and use a wide range of appropriate instructional strategies to present subject matter to students.
- Evaluate student progress using appropriate assessment techniques.
- Implement appropriate class management strategies and techniques to ensure an orderly classroom environment conducive to high levels of learning.
- Take all appropriate safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
- Counsel pupils when academic and behavioral problems arise.
- Confer with parents and students regarding progress of assigned students and arrange and participate in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences, as necessary.
- Serve on special committees, as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by the school, applicable programs and agencies, law, Board Policy, and Administrative Procedure.
