Role Summary
This is a unique opportunity to lead Canadian Tire Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management function while helping build and mature the Bank’s next generation Financial Risk Management capabilities. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the AVP, Enterprise & Financial Risk Management is responsible for leading Canadian Tire Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management function while establishing and maturing the Bank’s Financial Risk Management oversight capabilities.
The role provides independent oversight and challenge of the Bank’s overall risk profile, including credit, capital, liquidity, interest rate, strategic, model and emerging risks. Working closely with Executive Leadership, Finance, Treasury and business partners, the incumbent will ensure risks are appropriately identified, measured, monitored, managed and reported in alignment with the Bank’s Risk Appetite Framework, strategic objectives and regulatory expectations.
The AVP plays a key role in supporting Executive and Board decision-making through risk governance, forward‑looking risk analysis, stress testing, capital and liquidity oversight, regulatory engagement and independent challenge. This is a builder role requiring a leader who is equally comfortable shaping strategy, influencing executives and personally developing the frameworks, oversight programs, testing approaches and governance structures needed to establish and mature the Bank’s Financial Risk Management capability.
You’ll Do
Enterprise Risk Leadership Lead the design, implementation and continuous enhancement of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework. Maintain an independent and holistic view of the Bank’s risk profile across financial and non‑financial risks. Provide thought leadership and effective challenge to Executive Management on material risk-taking decisions, strategic initiatives and emerging risks. Provide independent risk assessments and challenge for material strategic initiatives, new products, portfolio strategies, partnerships and business transformation activities.
Own, maintain and continuously enhance the Bank’s Board‑approved Risk Appetite Framework, including risk appetite measures, limits, triggers, reporting and breach escalation. Lead the ongoing development of enterprise risk governance, risk assessment processes and reporting practices.
Financial Risk Management Development & Oversight Establish and mature the Bank’s second‑line Financial Risk Management oversight capability. Lead the development and implementation of frameworks, policies, standards, governance processes and reporting for capital, liquidity, interest rate, stress testing and other financial risks. Build foundational Financial Risk Management practices where capabilities are emerging or not yet fully developed. Partner with Treasury, Finance, Credit Risk and business leaders to establish effective monitoring, challenge and governance processes.
Develop risk appetite metrics, key risk indicators, limits and reporting for material financial risks. Lead the development and maturation of enterprise stress testing frameworks, methodologies, governance and reporting practices. Provide independent review and challenge of capital adequacy, liquidity sufficiency, stress testing assumptions, scenarios, methodologies and outputs. Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for the evolution of Financial Risk Management capabilities, governance, resources and operating model.
Operate effectively in both strategic and hands‑on capacities, personally driving the development of new risk management capabilities and deliverables as required.
Credit Risk Oversight & Model Risk Management Lead the independent second‑line oversight and challenge of retail credit risk strategies, underwriting standards, account management practices, collections strategies and portfolio performance. Review and challenge credit risk policies, risk appetite metrics, portfolio segmentation methodologies and key assumptions used in credit risk measurement and monitoring.
