This a temporary pool position to cover for those on leave of absence or for other vacancies. Applicants who meet the required qualifications will be brought in for computer testing (keyboarding, MS Word & Excel) after their application has been reviewed. Temporary administrative assistants who perform well, have been hired into FT positions at Oberlin College.
Job Summary
Oberlin College is recruiting temporary administrative assistants for the administrative temp pool. The administrative assistants work assignments with varying lengths of time in any office within the College and may experience periods of time in wait for the next assignment. If you enjoy a challenge and want to provide support to different areas on our beautiful campus, this is something that might interest you.
We are looking for seasoned administrative staff who may enjoy short or long term assignments.
Flexible duties which may include the following:
- Serve as receptionist (answer the telephone, handle mail, send and receive faxes and emails, provide message service, greet and direct students and visitors)
- Create, organize and maintain departmental records and files.
- Compose routine correspondence; prepare and edit announcements and/or publications.
- Assist in organizing departmental events; schedule appointments; make arrangements for meetings including scheduling rooms and catering.
- Maintain office equipment and inventory of office supplies; initiate requisitions for materials and supplies.
- Maintain departmental or project budgets and accounts including payment of invoices, reimbursements and related budget assistance; maintain petty cash; prepare payment requests.
- Maintain and update website.
- Oversee student employees; initiate and prepare forms and records including student payroll.
High school diploma with at least three years recent office experience in a fast-paced office setting; possess strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills; thorough knowledge of proper grammar, spelling and punctuation, office methods, procedures and practices; keyboarding speed of 40 wpm with emphasis on accuracy; proficiency in word processing (Microsoft Word) and spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Excel); attention to detail;
familiarity with database software; must demonstrate skills and abilities specific to the position assignment.
Testing required prior to interview:
Keyboarding (typing speed and accuracy): 40 wpm MS Basic Word, MS Excel
Compensation is commenserate with knowledge and experience.
