JOB GOAL

To assist in the instructional process.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent diploma.
  • Meets all mandated health requirements.
  • Documentation of a clear criminal record.
  • Demonstrate aptitude for successful performance of the responsibilities listed below.
  • Sufficient people skills in order to be able to respond appropriately in a variety of situations with varied clientele (e.g., students, teachers, parents).
  • Experience working with children in small groups or individual situations.
  • Must hold a valid Ohio Educational Aide Certificate with the addition of the ESEA qualified endorsement or hold a Bachelor's degree ODE issued license/certificate. ESEA stands for the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act, or No Child Left Behind, which requires educational aides or paraprofessionals working in Title I settings to meet certain qualifications per Senate Bill 216. To add the "ESEA qualified" endorsement to an educational aide permit, the individual must have successfully completed one of the following:
  • The examination for paraprofessionals prescribed by the State Board of Education (Para Pro Assessment). Candidates must request their test scores be reported directly to the Ohio Department of Education from the Educational Testing Service.
  • An associate degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher education; or at least two years of study at an accredited institution of higher education (defined as 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours).
RESPONSIBILITIES & SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • Under direction of instructor, monitor and/or implement instructional activities in groups or one-to-one situations using appropriate motivational and reinforcement techniques.
  • Provide for the safety of the students.
  • Supervise children in any instructional or school related setting.
  • Designs and produces instructional materials to meet student needs.
  • Recommends academic interventions for overall instructional program.
  • Provides strategies to students in organizational skills and study skills.
  • Use appropriate behavior management techniques and motivational and reinforcement techniques with students.
  • Support in the collection of data, maintenance of charts, and assist with informal assessments and write anecdotal records as requested by instructor.
  • May participate in or attend appropriate team meetings as necessary.
  • Provides ongoing feedback and/or monitors student progress.
  • Maintain and organize all assigned instructional materials and equipment.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned within the general scope of the job description, by the classroom teacher, building principal and curriculum director.
  • All Classified employees are encouraged to attend up to four (4) inservice or orientation meetings annually on a voluntary basis.

  • PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Sufficient ambulatory ability to travel to/from school and from room to room to interact with staff, as well as remain in a fixed location for a period of time.
  • Sufficient ability to hear the conversational voice with or without the aid of a hearing device.
  • Sufficient ability to see with or without corrective lenses.
  • Sufficient ability to speak and be understood under normal circumstances.
  • Sufficient use of arms, hands, legs, and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job.
  • Suited for situations that require the ability to plan ahead, yet remain flexible enough to adapt to new situations or react to emergencies.
  • Suited for situations that require the ability to interact to and interact well with other people, but also the ability to work alone.
  • Physical ability to perform student transfer techniques and operate student equipment for elementary through high school age students.
  • Responsible for following safety guidelines provided in training and safety manuals.
  • Able to change work assignment from school to school, when so designated by the supervisor.
