Oberlin City Schools is seeking a passionate and dynamic Band Director to inspire a love of music and instrumental performance in students across the district. Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Building Principals, the Band Director delivers high-quality instrumental music instruction to students across multiple grade levels and buildings. This educator fosters a passion for music, develops students' instrumental and ensemble skills, and creates meaningful performance opportunities while supporting student growth in a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging band instruction aligned with district and state standards
  • Teach instrumental music across multiple grade levels and buildings
  • Travel between district buildings to provide instruction and support music programming
  • Develop students' technical skills, musicality, and appreciation for music
  • Prepare students for concerts, performances, competitions, parades, and community events
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback to students and families
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation and achievement
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and performance-focused classroom environment
  • Collaborate with music staff and building teams to support a cohesive K–12 music program
  • Promote student engagement and participation in band programs
Additional Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and lead concerts, performances, marching band activities, and related events
  • Assist with instrument inventory, care, uniforms, equipment, and music library organization
  • Support recruitment and retention efforts for district music programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or District Administration
Qualifications
  • Valid Ohio teaching license in Music (K–12 or appropriate licensure)
  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field (Master's preferred)
  • Strong background in instrumental music instruction and band pedagogy
  • Experience directing concert band and/or marching band preferred
  • Experience teaching multiple grade levels preferred
  • Ability to travel between district buildings
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
  • Passion for music education and student engagement
