Position: First-Generation & Income-Eligible (FGIE) Coordinator
Job Summary

The Center for Student Success within the Division of Student Life at Oberlin College seeks applications for a Program Coordinator for First-Generation and Income-Eligible (FGIE) services. This is a 10-month (August 1 - May 31) live-on Administrative and Professional Staff position designed for a recent college graduate or early-career professional who reports to the Director of 1st Gen Student Success.

Successful candidates will have experience with programming for first-generation and/or low income students, detailed knowledge of Oberlin campus resources, and a student-centered approach to support. An interest in helping college students in their skill development and academic careers is desirable. This one-year position has the possibility of a second-year renewal and includes an on-campus apartment and dining plan. The coordinator must be able to work periodic nights and weekends as needed.

Applicants for this position must be able to articulate their understanding and appreciation of diversity, equity, and inclusion both within and without the FGIE community. Ideal applicants will have the ability to create a warm, welcoming environment for students as well as communicate effectively with a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

* Serve as a resource for students: work toward identifying and eliminating barriers that first-generation and/or income-eligible students face.

* Co-supervise undergraduate student employees (CSS Peer Mentors). Oversee Mentors as they produce a quarterly newsletter, create content for social media, and manage events.

* Help plan annual celebratory and educational events and programs aimed towards the FGIE community.

* Attend bi-weekly meetings with supervisor to offer feedback on FGIE initiatives and plan events.

* Design and lead programs to meet the needs of FGIE students.

* Assist in the daily operations of the CSS department.

* Co-facilitate presentations and training on topics related to CSS and FGIE services.

* Support FGIE student organizations and groups as needed.

* Participate in professional development opportunities as required.

* Collaborate with other areas of Student Affairs and departments on events and programs.

* Participate in required programs and initiatives in the division of Student Affairs.

* Represent CSS by tabling at different fairs and events on campus.

* Become an active member of the campus community by attending campus events.

* Other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions

Marginal Job Functions

Required Qualifications

B.A. degree; strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; working knowledge of and background in eliminating barriers pertaining to FGIE or other underserved students; experience working with students in a higher education context, preferably a liberal arts setting.

* Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, are required to responsibly execute the position.

* Occasional travel to/from external locations for the facilitation of training, meetings and other university functions.
