The Role

A mechanical engineer applies their knowledge of mechanical systems and materials to design and develop new products, improve existing products, and troubleshoot problems with existing products. They use computer-aided design (CAD) software and other tools to create technical drawings and specifications that detail the size, shape, and materials needed to manufacture a product.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical systems: design and develop mechanical systems using CAD software to create detailed schematics and models.
  • Conduct research: develop new technologies and products, and improve existing systems.
  • Develop prototypes: design, build, test, and analyze prototypes of mechanical systems.
  • Test and debug: perform laboratory tests, write test scripts, and simulate system behavior to ensure proper operation.
  • Communicate: report project status, progress, and changes to stakeholders, management, and other departments.
  • Maintain systems: maintain and troubleshoot mechanical systems, ensuring manufacturability and researching alternative solutions and parts.
  • Mentor: provide technical guidance to service personnel to develop their skills.
  • Document: create technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams for designed systems.
  • Collaborate: work closely with product managers, automation engineers, and operations teams to develop mechanical systems.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Welding & Metalworking: welding various metals (steel, aluminum) with MIG, TIG, and stick techniques; proficient in cutting, drilling, and grinding.
  • Sheet Metal Fabrication: bending sheet metal (press braking, roll bending).
  • CAD Proficiency: develop detailed schematics and 3D models; produce accurate technical drawings.
  • Mathematical & Analytical

    Skills:

    perform calculations, analyze data, and develop engineering solutions.
  • Problem‑Solving: troubleshoot complex technical issues, evaluate alternatives, implement optimal solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: precision, accuracy, and adherence to performance and safety standards.
  • Safety Awareness: knowledge of workplace safety procedures and commitment to a safe environment.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical certification/experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities with capacity to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Interpersonal skills for collaboration and relationship building across teams and external partners.
  • Problem‑solving skills to identify issues and implement timely solutions, especially in service delivery or operations.
  • Proficiency with relevant software and technology, including industrial automation systems.
  • Customer focus: understanding of service principles and commitment to high‑quality support.
