- Rotating (Primary shift time - 2:00 pm‑10:30 pm, Availability on 1st or 3rd shift as needed). Weekend and holiday availability as required.

Primary Function / General Purpose of PositionThe Spec Patient Access LOR is responsible for performing admitting duties for all patients admitted for services at Mercy Health. They must meet the mission and goals of Mercy Health ministry and all regulatory compliance requirements, working within policies and processes across the organization.
Essential Job Functions- Assign accurate MRNs, complete medical necessity/compliance checks, provide patient instructions, collect insurance information, process physician orders, and utilize overlay tool while delivering excellent customer service as measured by Press Ganey.
- Operate the telephone switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and inter‑office calls, adhering to Mercy Health policies and providing compassionate customer service.
- Utilize quality auditing and reporting systems to correct accounts, including audits for other employees, departments, and facilities, ensuring all forms are completed accurately and timely to meet audit standards and deliver statistical data to leadership.
- Perform pre‑registration of patient accounts prior to visits, calling inbound/outbound to obtain demographics, insurance, and financial liability information, including collecting point‑of‑service collections and past‑due balances with payment plan options.
- Explain consent for treatment forms to patients/guarantors/legal guardians, obtain necessary signatures and witness names, and distribute patient education documents such as Medicare and Tricare messages, observation forms, MOON form, and consent forms.
- Review eligibility responses in insurance verification system, select applicable insurance plan codes, enter benefit data to support POS collections, and assist with clean claim rates.
- Screen medical necessity using ABN software to notify Medicare patients of possible non‑payment, distribute ABN and other designated forms and pamphlets.
- Perform all other duties as assigned, including answering phones at applicable facilities.

Licensing / CertificationCHAA (Certified Health Access Associate) – National Association of Healthcare Access Management, preferred.
Education- High School Diploma or GED – required.
- 2‑Year / Associate’s Degree – preferred.
- Combination of post‑secondary education and experience in lieu of a degree.
1–2 years of patient access experience highly preferred.
TrainingMedical terminology or CPT or procedure codes – preferred.
