The Center for Information Technology at Oberlin College invites applications for the position of Endpoint Support Specialist (Mac & Linux). This is a full‑time, 12-month recurring Administrative and Professional (A&PS) staff position, reporting to the Director of IT Support.
The Endpoint Support Specialist will be responsible for technical support for MacOS end‑user devices and a Linux‑based (Ubuntu) desktop computer lab at the College. Apple devices include laptops, desktops, and tablets. The Endpoint Support Specialist will work closely with other IT teams to ensure that end‑user devices are properly maintained, configured, and secure. The ideal candidate will have experience in supporting endpoints with MacOS, Linux, and possess strong technical and customer service skills.
Responsibilities- Maintain and provide tier 2 technical support for all Apple devices including laptops, desktops, and tablets.
- Deploy new and existing Apple devices to end‑users, ensuring that all are properly configured.
- Assist with software deployment, system updates, security patches, and OS upgrades.
- Respond to support tickets and requests by providing on‑site or remote support.
- Monitor and report on endpoint performance and usage, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with all IT teams to ensure endpoints are properly integrated with other IT systems & services.
- Patiently assist end‑users through simple and complex issues.
- Assist in maintaining asset tracking and inventorying physical equipment.
- Provide Tier 1 support for the Linux‑based computer lab environment including OS and software installation, updates, and other basic lab maintenance.
- Assist with Linux system administrative tasks including user access and permissions.
- Escalate infrastructure‑related and other complex issues to system administrators.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT operations while supporting many Apple devices.
- Strong technical skills in supporting and troubleshooting complex issues across a range of Apple devices.
- Strong technical knowledge of macOS, iPadOS, and native applications and features.
- Experience with endpoint security best practices, including encryption, antivirus and firewalls.
- Good understanding and technical experience with Linux-based operating systems.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and a customer service orientated approach to support.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders and team members.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Basic Windows technical knowledge.
- Industry certifications (e.g., Apple, Linux, CompTIA).
- Higher Education IT experience and similar preferred.
- Basic familiarity with automation and configuration tools such as Jamf Pro or Ansible.
