Workday Technical Specialist

Overview

CIT invites applications for the position of Workday Technical Specialist, a key role in Oberlin’s ERP Optimization Initiative. This role is the primary technical expert responsible for configuring and building the Workday platform during the transition from Banner to a modern cloud-based ERP. Reports to the Director of Enterprise Applications and is responsible for the configuration, design, and technical build of Workday across Human Resources and Finance.

The role translates business requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable Workday configurations, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and Workday best practices. The Workday Technical Specialist collaborates with functional leads, business analysts, and integration specialists, owning configuration integrity including business processes, security, and core platform setup. This role operates at the intersection of configuration, architecture, and integration to ensure Workday is built correctly from the start with a strong technical foundation for long-term success.

• Workday Configuration & Build Ownership:
  Design, configure, and implement Workday business processes, security models, and core system functionality; serve as the primary owner of system configuration; establish configuration standards that support scalability and maintainability.
• Technical Solution Design:
  Translate functional requirements into efficient, scalable Workday configurations; provide technical direction to minimize rework; partner with Business Analysts and functional teams to ensure alignment between business needs and system capabilities.
• Security & Data Configuration:
  Design and configure Workday security roles, domains, and access models; align configurations with institutional policies and data governance standards; maintain proper structuring of sensitive HR and financial data.
• Integration Alignment:
  Work with Integration Specialists to ensure Workday configurations align with integration requirements across systems such as Banner, OnBase, CRM, and other enterprise platforms; provide input into integration design for compatibility; ensure data structures support reliable data exchange.
• Testing & System Validation:
  Lead configuration aspects of testing cycles (unit, integration, user acceptance) and ensure configurations are validated, consistent, and ready for deployment; collaborate with the project team to resolve defects and ensure system quality.
• Configuration Quality & Continuous Improvement:
  Refine configurations to improve performance, usability, and maintainability; identify and correct issues early; apply Workday best practices for a sustainable design.
• Success Measures:
  High-quality, scalable configurations aligned with best practices; minimal rework due to upfront design; robust security and data models; reliable integrations and reporting; strong testing and go-live readiness; maintainable system foundation.

• Required:
  
  Three (3) years of hands-on experience configuring Workday (HCM & Finance) in higher education; strong expertise in Workday business process framework and security configuration; ability to translate functional requirements into technical configurations; attention to detail;
  Bachelor’s degree in information technology, business, or related field.
• Desired:
  Experience implementing Workday in higher education or complex organizations; experience working with integration teams; familiarity with data governance and security frameworks; experience supporting large-scale ERP implementations.

• Workday Pro Security Certification
• Additional certifications in Workday Integrations, Reporting, or Business Process Configuration are a plus.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
