Trinity Catholic High School Guidance Counselor
Trinity Catholic High School prepares students for life after high school by teaching them virtue and knowledge as they will need to be contributing members of society based on the Gospel message and Roman Catholic teaching. Located in Ocala, Florida, the school serves families in grades 9‑12.
Trinity Catholic is seeking a qualified full‑time Guidance Counselor for the 2026‑2027 school year. As a professional educator in a Catholic school, the counselor will:
- Understand that TC is a Catholic High School and commit to upholding the Catholic spiritual and intellectual traditions that are the foundation of the school.
- Hold a master’s degree in school counseling.
- Possess a valid Professional Certificate from the State of Florida or be eligible for State Certification (6‑12) in the specific subject area.
- Preferably be a practicing Catholic.
- Demonstrate skills and knowledge of education, communication, and people skills.
- Provide counseling to help students overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their education.
- Offer crisis intervention when difficult situations arise.
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to discuss student progress, resolve behavioral and academic issues, and determine priorities and resource needs.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by law, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- Prepare students for future educational experiences by encouraging exploration of learning opportunities and perseverance with challenging tasks.
- Identify cases of domestic abuse or other family problems and encourage students or parents to seek assistance from mental health professionals.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators in developing, evaluating, and revising school programs and preparing master schedules for curriculum offerings.
- Present self‑help or informational sessions on education and career planning.
- Ensure students receive all necessary information to support college planning, applications, and acceptance.
- Attend meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops and serve on committees as needed.
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Undergo a full background check before employment.
- Accept a 90‑day probationary period upon employment.
- Familiarity with and support for the school's educational philosophy and the Diocese of Orlando.
- Competency in using technology.
- Availability during regular school hours to support students and parents.
- Supervision of student activities and willingness to assume other duties inside and outside school, including retreats, field trips, assemblies, and related events.
- Attendance at faculty meetings, department meetings, and other school meetings as required.
- Meeting yearly expectations for professional development and spiritual growth.
- Full cooperation with the school’s religious and faith‑formation activities.
- Timely preparation of all required administrative reports.
- Proper supervision and care of school property, including furniture, electronics, books, supplies, equipment, rooms, and buildings.
- Adherence to professional ethics, appropriate dress, and confidentiality in interactions with administrators, faculty, students, parents, and the public.
- Availability for Parent‑Teacher Conferences upon request.
- Presence at faculty retreats, Open House, Back‑to‑School Night, graduation ceremonies, and all school‑sponsored life‑of‑school activities.
- Collaboration with colleagues to plan and develop school‑wide initiatives, including instruction and assessments.
- Knowledge of human behavior, individual differences, learning and motivation, psychological research methods, assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders, rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and career counseling and guidance.
- Advancement of Trinity Catholic’s mission through prayer, encouragement, and fidelity to Roman Catholic teaching.
