This open competitive advertisement is for a SES (Selected Exempt Service) position located at Lowell Correctional Institution in the Education Department.
The purpose of the Education Department is to provide comprehensive educational programs and services to inmates that enhance their academic, vocational, and life skills, promote personal development, and support successful reintegration into society, ultimately aiming to reduce recidivism and help inmates become productive, law-abiding citizens.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIESThe incumbent in this dynamic position leads the entire Adult Education and Career and Technical Education program at a correctional institution or facility. Employees in this role exercise independent judgment to shape impactful policies and procedures, significantly influencing personnel administration and budget preparation. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise and manage education staff, including hiring, training, evaluating, and disciplining employees.
- Plan, organize, and direct Adult Education and Career and Technical Education programs at the correctional institution/facility.
- Counsel inmates on educational concerns and personal or family problems.
- Prepare and administer the education department budget, ensuring proper and legal administration of funds.
- Ensure compliance with education standards, maintain the education building and equipment, and schedule staff training and orientation programs.

- A master's degree from an accredited college/university.
- Two (2) years of teaching experience.
- Must possess a current State of Florida Professional Educator’s Certificate.
- In addition, employees in this position must possess or be willing to add at least one of the following administrative coverage areas within 36 months of appointment: school principal, administration of adult education, local director of vocational education, or educational leadership.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONBACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
