Duties, Responsibilities & OtherJob Summary: The Distribution Engineer Designer I (DED I) is the first level of the DED career track, with progression based on time in grade and performance. This career path provides designs for electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground circuits for joint use, lighting, and commercial, industrial, and residential development. The role uses technical engineering calculations and field data to complete design work and may assist with storm restoration at an appropriate level for experience.
The DED I creates simple design projects and supports others on more complex projects, with some independence. Interaction with clients/customers and construction crews occurs to progress projects. It provides foundational experience in electrical distribution system design.
This position is primarily office-based with significant field work expected, including exposure to inclement weather and potential hazards in outdoor environments.
Key Technical Skills Required:
- CAD Experience
- Power Distribution experience
- Pole Analysis software
- WMS experience (e.g., Maximo)
- Understanding of Electrical Components
- Circuit knowledge of electrical components
- Advanced distribution techniques (switch gear, cap bank)
- Conduit systems
- Field and work zone safety
Your key responsibilities include:
- Producing electric distribution design drawings and BOMs for simple projects.
- Performing field data collection using standard tools and processes and conducting necessary inspections.
- Gaining familiarity with technical analyses such as cable pulling calculations, voltage drop calculations, transformer loading calculations, and pole loading analyses.
- Understanding client construction standards, processes, and customer charging guidelines as required.
- Generating permitting and other project supporting documentation as needed.
- Understanding hazards of the distribution system and how to mitigate hazards during office and field work.
- Promoting safety and actively looking out for others in all aspects of the work.
- Attending and engaging in safety meetings and adhering to training related to driving and site hazard identification, mitigation, and reporting.
- Opportunities to participate in storm response as a Driver and Assessor Learner on local or travel teams.
This role will work under close supervision for mentorship, guidance, and training.
Qualifications- Four-year ABET-accredited Engineering degree.
- FE/EIT preferred
- Valid Driver's License required
