Four (4) years of professional experience in Fire Science, Business Management, Education, or another related field is required. A post‑secondary degree in Fire Science, Business Management, Education, or another related field may substitute for the required professional experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
Additional Requirements- Florida Certified Firefighter II – FS 633.
- Florida Certified Fire Instructor III – FS 633 (required within eighteen (18) months of appointment).
- Florida Certified Contract Manager (required within eighteen (18) months of appointment).
- Five (5) or more years’ experience in the development of curricula of fire and emergency training programs.
- Five (5) or more years’ experience managing fire service training, facilities, equipment, maintenance and improvements, overseeing the management of facilities and equipment maintenance and improvements.
- Three (3) or more years’ experience in School Administration for a college or Technical Training Program.
- Ability to be a self‑starter; using creativity, innovation, and persistence to achieve positive results.
- Ability to conduct problem analysis; analyze problems comprehensively and make timely practical decisions.
- Skillful using time effectively, acting independently, and is motivated to succeed.
- Knowledgeable of contemporary personnel management concepts.
- Knowledge of accounting practices.
- Knowledge of database management.
- Knowledge of budget development, planning and management.
- Ability to use a personal computer.
- Ability to create and promote cooperative and productive working relationships within DFS and across departments and other agencies.
- Knowledge of customer service techniques.
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent public speaking abilities.
This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.
This position will be filled at $ annually.
Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.
Brief Description of DutiesThis position spends the majority of its time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees and can recommend such actions for all employees.
Administrative/Leadership- Directs the operation and administrative functions of the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training and the Florida State Fire College.
- Develops and implements rules, regulations, forms, and procedures related to firefighter training and certifications.
- Prepares technical correspondence and materials pertaining to Bureau activities.
- Develops and manages the operating budget for the Bureau.
- Enforces Chapter 633, Florida Statutes, and exercises independent judgment when dealing with agencies violating related laws.
- Administers the Florida Firefighter's Supplemental Compensation program.
- Conducts research on emerging trends and best practices in fire safety and training, incorporating findings into training programs.
- Prioritizes and implements measures to ensure the health, safety, and well‑being of firefighters during training and operations activities.
