Your Specific Responsibilities:
The Health Educator Consultant will be responsible for the following:
Injury Prevention:
The employee will chair the Safe Kids Marion County Coalition as per bylaws and Safe Kids standards. The employee will work with the Marion County Children's Alliance (MCCA) to oversee the coalition as a workgroup of MCCA. The employee will be expected to submit and report Annual Reports to the MCCA as well as coordinate with MCCA staff for coalition needs.
The employee will be responsible to submit all monthly and project reports and assure all required components of the program are implemented. The employee will be required to coordinate with coalition members and community partners to meet coalition requirements and expand community outreach. The employee will educate Marion County residents on injury prevention. The topic of this education will include water safety, safe sleep, vehicle safety (including child safety seats, pedestrian, and bicycle), fire safety, sports safety, etc.
The employee will develop/utilize educational materials pertinent to injury prevention, disseminate the materials through classes, community events, promotional campaigns, presentations etc. The employee will be responsible for seeking out and submitting grant applications on behalf of the Florida Department of Health in Marion County injury prevention program and the Safe Kids Marion County Coalition. This employee will be certified as a Car Passenger Technician and will install car seats for Marion County residents in addition to car seat checks.
Budget Management and Purchasing:
The employee will be responsible for purchasing for both the Department of Health injury prevention programs and Safe Kids Marion County.
Community Representation:
Act as a community liaison by attending community meetings, Safe Kids Marion County and DOH-Marion's health initiatives at community events. Attend and participate in community meetings and relay any pertinent information to the Health Education Program Manager-SES.
Assist the other Health Education programs with community events and program activities as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Public speaking experience required
* Ability to develop and deliver health education and community development services to others.
* Ability to communicate effectively.
* Ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher.
* Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
* Ability to design and produce health promotion and public health educational materials.
* Knowledge of the principles and practices of community health education.
* Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and coordinate work assignments.
* Ability to write and submit reports.
* Knowledge of community development, public health, community outreach, or similar experience.
* Knowledge of basic public health marketing principles.
* Ability to monitor and evaluate program effectiveness.
* Ability to collect and analyze data.
* Ability to maintain records.
* Ability to work independently.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
* Skill in operating a personal computer.
* Ability to operate audiovisual equipment.
* Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 50lbs or more unassisted.
* Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM
- Valid Florida Drivers License
Experience educating/presenting to youth or adults
Ability to lift more than 35lbs
Willing to work outside in the elements
Available to work evenings and weekends
PREFERRED
- Experience working with community partners
Bilingual
Bachelor's Degree
Experience working in Injury Prevention programs
