Health Educator

This is a professional position that provides health education to Marion County Health Department clients and residents of Marion County. This position requires the ability to take initiative, work independently and think creatively. Strong communication skills written and verbal ability to multitask, prioritize and attention to detail required. Individual will be expected to work with community and corporate partners in a professional, diplomatic, sensitive and confidential manner.

This position requires the ability to work with youth, parents, and our aging population discussing healthy decision making in various indoor and outdoor locations in our community. The individual in this position will be supervised by the Health Education Program Manager-SES and a valid driver's license is required for this position.

The individual will support lead Health Education Consultants in advancing healthy decision making across key focus areas, including healthy communities, injury prevention, employee wellness, chronic disease prevention, and healthy aging. Responsibilities include assisting with the development and utilization of educational materials relevant to health education and facilitating their distribution through classes, community events, promotional campaigns and presentation. The individual will assist with additional programs, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the Health Education Program Manager, including by not limited to car seat installation services, to support department goals and initiatives.

The individual will be responsible for assisting in ordering and submitting purchase orders for all Health Education programs as needed. The individual will assist as a community liaison by attending community meetings, promoting Department of Health messaging. Other duties as assigned.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include public speaking/educating experience, knowledge of principles and techniques of effective communication- both written and verbal, knowledge of the principles and practices of health education, using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches, ability to develop and deliver health education services to others, ability and skills to prioritize and manage your time effectively to meet deadlines, ability to collect and analyze data, ability to maintain electronic and hard copy records, ability to pay attention to detail, ability to work independently, ability to solve problems and think quickly under pressure, ability to work indoors and outdoors as needed, ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 30lbs or more unassisted, ability to operate a personal computer, utilizing computer systems and operating audiovisual equipment.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint Publisher and Outlook. Ability to work with little supervision and represent the DOH-Marion in a professional manner.

Qualifications include a minimum FL driver license, experience educating/presenting to youth or adults, ability to lift more than 35 lbs, willingness to work outside in elements, availability to work evenings and weekends. Preferred qualifications include working with community partners, bilingual, bachelor's degree.
