Facilities Custodian

Description

This is routine unskilled & semi-skilled labor position performing general custodial duties in assigned facilities.

Reports to:

Recreation & Parks - Facility Supervisor or Manager, Electric - Deputy Director of Billing & Meter Services and Engineering - Traffic Engineer II.

Examples of Duties

Facility Maintenance

Cleans toilets, sinks, shower areas, mirrors, etc.

Sweeps/vacuums, mops, and cleans windows, tables and chairs.

Dusts all necessary areas.

Empties and cleans trash cans and ashtrays.

Refills soap dispensers, toilet paper and paper towels in rest rooms and/or lounge areas or centers on a daily basis.

Spot cleans carpets and furniture upholstery.

Inventory

Inventories cleaning supplies on a regular basis.

Safety

Continually monitors building for possible safety hazards.

Recreation & Parks

Grounds Maintenance

Empties and cleans trash cans, sweeps sidewalks and porch areas, cleans picnic tables, picks up trash around facility, cleans exterior of windows, cleans sills, doors, and walls on a regular basis.

Equipment Set Up

Sets up equipment for events and programs according to written or oral instructions.

Performs any other related duties as required or assigned

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Three to six months job related experience in the custodial field.

Must be able to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.

Must be able to count and maintain supply inventory.

Electric & Engineering:

One year experience in performing custodial duties and handling the tools necessary with which to satisfactorily perform assigned duties is preferred.

Recreation & Parks:

Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate rentals and program requirements.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Operators Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED preferred, plus 12 months related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, the general public, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers.

Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Under general supervision where standard practice enables the employee to proceed alone on routine work, referring all questionable cases to a supervisor.

Performs work operations that permit frequent opportunities for decision-making of minor importance that would affect the operating efficiency of the individual involved, work operations of other employees, and or clientele to a slight degree.

Probable errors of internal scope readily detected in the normal course of work by standard check or routine crosscheck within a single department or office. Errors resulting from inaccuracy would create minor confusion, delay, or expense to correct the situation.

Frequent contacts with the general public, patrons, or other outside representatives, wherein the manner of handling these contacts has a bearing on the organization's position and operation.
