Metal Finisher (Sander/Grinder)

Shift: 5:30am-4pm Mon-Thurs (voluntary overtime available Fri/Sat)

As a Vehicle Preparation Technician/Metal Finisher, you will perform duties to sand, grind, mount, or repair units in preparation for welding, assembly operations, or paint. You will be part of the team manufacturing large, custom, special-purpose vehicles, working within prescribed routines to meet specifications.

• Sand or grind parts or bevel edges in preparation for welding.
• Feather, flute, flat and level grind, and remove sharp edges or burns.
• Detect and repair defects such as dents, holes, and substrate conditions.
• Apply fillers, file or sand areas to meet surface finish requirements.
• Apply primer over corrected areas and expose aluminum.
• Wire brush welds, grind and remove excess weld beads.
• Apply compound and buff surfaces to meet cosmetic criteria.
• Recognize weld defects such as fractures, voids, porosity, and distortion.
• Change grades of abrasive or compounds to finish surfaces appropriately.
• Remove doors or components, mount them on stands or fixtures, and pull required hinges.
• Flat surface sand specified pieces to obtain symmetrical patterns.

• Proficiency in reading tape measures to 1/16th of an inch.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Experience with shop orders and working with grinders, sanders, and hand tools.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude.

• Experience with hand and powered tools, spraying equipment, and forklifts.
• Ability to use tape measures, squares, and files.
• Experience with sanders and grinders.

Work in an open-air manufacturing facility, which can be hot during the summer and cold in the winter. The position operates on a 1st shift schedule, Monday through Thursday from 5:30 am to 4:00 pm. Voluntary overtime is typically available on Fridays and Saturdays from 5:30 am to 10:30 am, with additional opportunities during the week.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ocala, FL.

The pay range for this position is $16.50 - $17.50/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
