Summary

Responsible for the effective direction of the Welding Department, involving full accountability for results in terms of costs, methods, quality and quantity of production, operations and personnel by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and manage production:
    Schedule and coordinate Welding/Fabrication/Hydro department work based on production schedules and customer shipment commitments, while monitoring workflow and progress.
  • Lead safety initiatives:
    Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, and job hazard assessments while promoting a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Control quality and materials:
    Enforce welding procedures and standards, monitor material usage, minimize scrap and rework, and ensure welds meet applicable codes and specifications.
  • Supervise employees:
    Directly supervise up to 25 employees, including assigning work, training, performance management, hiring, discipline, and resolving employee concerns.
  • Coordinate across departments:
    Work closely with Production Control, Engineering, and other departments to schedule orders, resolve specification issues, and maintain production commitments.
  • Drive continuous improvement:
    Evaluate welding processes, equipment, and new industry developments; recommend improvements that increase efficiency, productivity, and cost savings.
  • Monitor and report performance:
    Prepare production reports and participate in production meetings, tracking quality, labor utilization, safety, delays, and schedule attainment while taking corrective action when needed.
  • Manage technical and external relationships:
    Coordinate inspections and welding certifications, provide technical guidance, and serve as a liaison with engineering personnel, clients, and outside welding inspectors.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Welding:
    Knowledge of ASME Section VIII, Division I requirements, TIG, MIG, SMA, and stick welding, as well as ASNT-TC-1A NDT testing and acceptance criteria.
