SUMMARY

The Youth Ministry Coordinator is responsible for promoting the parish’s ministry with youth in junior and senior high school and with young adults. The youth ministry coordinator reaches out to all youth in the parish community, both English and Spanish speaking, provides formal catechesis for the sacrament of Confirmation, oversees all aspects of the parish’s Life Teen ministry, invites and enables youth to serve others, develops close communication with families of youth, and collaborates with other community and parish youth organizations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is 40 hours per week, paid on an hourly basis.

The Youth Ministry Coordinator is expected to be available at weekends, in the evenings and on weekdays.

Program Development and Relationships
  • The Youth Ministry Coordinator is responsible for the parish’s Life Teen program which meets weekly. The minister works with a core team drawn from youth, young adults, and parents. Responsibilities include preparing teens who serve at the Sunday afternoon liturgy and planning for the Sunday Life Teen gathering after Mass, which includes a meal, talks, discussions, and other activities.
  • Responsible for fundraising including occasional Sunday events: bake sales, donut sales, raffles, coffee and donuts every fourth Sunday, and car washes. Annual events such as Trunk or Treat, Breakfast with Santa, and Brunch with Bunny are also the direct responsibility of the Youth Ministry Coordinator.
  • Connects with the leaders of the Edge, Covenant Mission Team and Prayer in Action programs in the parish which are volunteer‑led but fall under Youth Ministry.
  • Prioritizes strengthening the bonds between the parish’s English‑speaking and Hispanic‑speaking youth groups.
  • Facilitates development of leadership skills in youth and adults.
  • Prepares and teaches a weekly Confirmation class at Trinity Catholic High School for TCHS students and in the parish for public school teens (9‑12) who want to be confirmed. The classes run from September to the Confirmation Mass.
  • Assists in the preparation of the Sunday evening liturgical celebration and for other sacramental celebrations of the Eucharist, reconciliation, confirmation, retreats and the annual Life Teen or similar camps.
  • Is available for listening, advising, and referral.
  • Provides opportunities for weekend retreats and evenings/days of reflection by developing a retreat team and providing for its development and enrichment.
  • Develops the kind of relationships with parents that are conducive to open communication between parents and youth.
  • Develops peer ministry to assist in retreats, service opportunities, and prayer experiences with junior high students.
  • Organizes The Live Nativity at Christmas and Living Stations of the Cross in Holy Week with youth of the parish, including the Hispanic youth groups.
Recruitment and Training
  • Recruits, trains, assigns, and evaluates youth leaders; coordinates participation in diocesan-sponsored training programs.
  • Monitors the efforts of volunteer leaders and evaluates progress.
  • Defines the responsibilities of each adult leader/advisor.
  • Ensures that all adult leaders/advisors comply with diocesan safety regulations (finger‑printing/criminal background check).
  • Makes special efforts to obtain the endorsement, support, and involvement of all adults, especially parents and parish organizations; helps the parish community become more aware of its role in comprehensive youth ministry.
Administration
  • Initiates ways of gathering data on the needs, interests, attitudes, and beliefs of youth.
  • Plans, organizes, and implements programs/experiences that provide an integrated approach to meeting the needs/interests of youth.
