Overview
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) is responsible for identifying the patient’s alterations in health, assessing the patient’s human response to actual and potential health problems, implementing nursing interventions based on theoretical concepts from nursing and other arts and sciences, and evaluating the effectiveness of nursing interventions to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The ED RN provides care for patients in accordance with physician orders, policies, procedures, established standards and administrative policies.
Whenever possible, the patient, the family, or other significant parties are integral to the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation efforts. The ED RN supervises/direct care provided by paramedics, techs, and unlicensed assistive personnel, assigns or delegates care to other qualified members of the health care team, and coordinates care between other professional disciplines as needed.
- Demonstrate ability to manage care within the established standards of nursing care and practice as defined by the state of Florida.
- Initiate care to stabilize patients and assist in managing life support needs by collaborating with physicians and clinical staff, demonstrating appropriate admission, discharge, and transfer procedures.
- Collect laboratory samples and perform lab testing in accordance with CLIA regulations and established policies and procedures.
- Perform laboratory quality controls and assessments, and conduct routine daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic maintenance in accordance with laboratory policy and procedure.
- Prepare patient meals in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.
- Ensure proper supplies, appropriate medical equipment, and medications are available for patient care and maintain facility levels.
- Participate in QAPI activities, including accreditation preparation and survey processes, and maintain accreditation, state, and CMS standards.
- Adhere to established facility and departmental policies and procedures.
- Attend and participate in all applicable facility meetings, training, and development workshops.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QualificationsMinimum education and experience requirements:
Minimum 3 years of experience in a hospital emergency department. BSN and professional nursing board certification preferred at time of hire. All nurses hired after April 30, 2014 without a BSN will be required to obtain a BSN within three years of hire. All nurses hired after June 30, 2011 without a professional nursing board certification will be required to obtain a professional nursing board certification after two years of hire or at the certification eligibility date for certifications requiring more than two years of experience.
Motor vehicle operator designation:
Employees in this position will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose. Licensure, certification, and registration:
Current RN license in the State of Florida. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, or ENPC.
