Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – PPEC
Job Summary:The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at a Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) center provides skilled nursing care to medically fragile and/or technology-dependent children in a non-residential daycare setting. The LPN works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or physician to ensure safe, compassionate, and developmentally appropriate care.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide direct nursing care to pediatric patients with complex medical needs
- Monitor vital signs, assess patient conditions, and report changes promptly
- Administer medications, treatments, and therapies as prescribed
- Manage medical equipment such as feeding tubes, ventilators, oxygen, and tracheostomies
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including feeding, bathing, and mobility
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation
- Follow individualized care plans and physician orders
- Ensure infection control and safety protocols are followed
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding the child’s care and progress
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members (RNs, therapists, physicians)
- Respond appropriately to medical emergencies
- Current, active LPN license in the state of employment
- Current CPR/BLS certification (PALS preferred)
- Experience in pediatric, home health, or long-term care preferred
- Knowledge of pediatric medical conditions and equipment
- Strong clinical, organizational, and communication skills
Pediatric daycare-style medical facility (PPEC)
Fast-paced, team-oriented setting
Requires standing, lifting, and assisting children with mobility needs
Physical Requirements:- Ability to lift and transfer pediatric patients
- Prolonged standing, walking, and bending
- Manual dexterity for handling medical equipment
Skills:
- Compassion and patience when working with children and families
- Attention to detail and strong documentation skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize care effectively
