Your Specific Responsibilities:
Mobile Health Unit Nursing Responsibilities:
* Provides professional nursing services on the Mobile Health Unit. Demonstrates and implements techniques of nursing care. Counsels and educates clients on sexually transmitted infections (STI), including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and risk reduction. Provides pre- and post-test counseling for hepatitis and HIV and connection to additional care services as appropriate. Draws blood for testing.
* Dispenses contraceptive devices, medications and literature. Informs clients on family planning methods and counsels regarding risks and benefits of different contraceptive methods. Monitors clients for symptoms of contraceptive side effects. Performs pregnancy testing and counseling according to protocol and Title X and American Council on Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) guidelines. Refers clients to prenatal care and resources when indicated.
* Provides children and adults with immunizations in accordance with the Standards of Childhood and Adult Immunizations Practices, ACIP and DOH-Marion policies. Reviews client's history to determine the accuracy and safety of the immunizations scheduled to be administered. Informs the client regarding potential adverse reactions, provides required VIS forms. Required to complete daily MHU inventory to ensure adequate vaccine supply for Vaccines for Children (VFC), paid stock, and program 17 within financial parameters.
Maintains vaccine accountability within state requirements. Completes temperature monitoring for vaccine storage equipment and works to identify and correct errors in compliance with Vaccines for Children (VFC) and Centers for Disease (CDC) guidelines.
* Facilitates telehealth calls for clients with DOH-Marion APRN or Medical Director as needed during course of Mobile Health Unit visits. Provides treatment under DOH-Marion provider's standing orders, program guidelines, and/or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations.
* Helps client maintain a state of wellness through periodic screening procedures and health counseling.
* Assures timely data entry in Florida Shots, HMS, and EARS as required.
Mobile Health Unit Operational Responsibilities:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Strong communication skills, with fluency in spoken and written English.
* Ability to learn training materials and apply knowledge effectively to job duties and responsibilities
* Ability to teach others, sharing knowledge and skills in a clear and supportive manner
* Knowledge of adult learning methods to enhance training and education effectiveness
* Ability to administer vaccines across all age groups.
* Knowledge of vaccines, immunization requirements, and guidelines for infants, children, adolescents, and adults.
* Knowledge to recognize situations in which intervention is needed to improve outcomes or prevent harm
* Ability to collect correct information for accurate documentation and reporting.
* Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative and accountability
* Ability to use multiple computer programs to support clinic operations and documentation
* Ability to make a nursing diagnosis following specified protocols
* Ability to handle difficult STI/ sexual health Issues/situations and social issues/situations in a sensitive, professional and non-judgmental manner.
* Ability to teach clients specific health issues, promotion of wellness, maintenance of health and prevention of illness.
* Ability to make a nursing diagnosis following specified protocols.
* Availability to attend evening and weekend events as needed
* Flexibility to adjust work schedule and responsibilities
* Ability to carry 25lbs unassisted
Qualifications:
MINIMUM
- Valid Florida Driver's license
One year nursing experience in clinical public health
Valid Florida registered nursing license
PREFERRED
- Experience in community outreach
Bilingual English/Spanish
