Job Summary

Sales Manager ensures customer retention and profitability of this profit center by recruiting qualified sales personnel, appraising, purchasing, reconditioning, displaying, and merchandising vehicle inventory; and provides vehicle department with a supply of marketable vehicles within dealership’s financial guidelines and purchasing policies.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities
  • Forecast goals and objectives for sales, gross, and key expenses on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Hire, motivate, counsel, and monitor the performance of all pre‑owned vehicle sales employees.
  • Prepare and administer an annual operating forecast and budget for the sales department.
  • Understand, keep abreast of and comply with federal, state, and local regulations that affect vehicle sales.
  • Direct and schedule the activities of all department employees, ensuring proper staffing at all times.
  • Assist individual salespeople in setting aggressive yet realistic monthly goals and objectives and provide them with the support to meet these goals.
  • Ensure proper follow‑up of all potential buyers by developing, implementing, and monitoring a prospecting and sales control process in conjunction with the CRC Department.
  • Work with the CRC Department to ensure that all vehicle customers are followed up on a consistent basis.
  • Maintain vehicle inventory. Monitor customers’ likes and dislikes, lost sales, dealership sales history and conduct local market analyses to determine which vehicles to stock.
  • Analyze sales history and local area trends to determine the best purchasing mix.
  • Process salesperson commission sheets daily and monitor the payroll records of all vehicle salespeople.
  • Conduct daily and weekly sales and sales training meetings as requested.
  • Establish and enforce product‑knowledge standards.
  • Oversee the efforts of salespeople to enhance the image and customer satisfaction rating of the dealership.
  • Help salespeople close deals.
  • Ensure 100 % T.O. (Transfer of Opportunity) of each customer to F I department.
  • Communicate daily with the other sales manager(s) regarding units needed for the vehicle inventory.
  • Ensure that salespeople are informed of all new inventory and current advertising efforts, including special sales.
  • Develop and maintain outside sources (other wholesalers and retailers) for both buying and selling vehicles.
  • Enforce a 60‑day vehicle inventory turn policy.
  • Plan and control the display of inventory.
  • Establish delivery procedures and ensure that delivery includes an introduction to the service department and scheduling of the first service appointment.
  • Assist in the development of advertising campaigns and other promotions.
  • Handle customer complaints immediately and according to dealership’s guidelines.
  • Attend General Communication Meetings as requested.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
  • Previous automotive sales experience.
  • A professional appearance and customer‑oriented attitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills; well organized and self‑motivated.
  • Know and understand the federal, state, and local laws which govern retail automotive sales.
Dress Code

All sales people must keep themselves and their work area neat and clean. Excellent hygiene and grooming are a must. A company polo or shirt and tie are required for all men and business professional attire for all women. Clothing must be clean, pressed, and shoes shined. No eating at desk area.
