The Field Service Technician supports dealers and customers by delivering vehicles, providing hands‑on training, troubleshooting technical issues, and assisting with field repairs. This role works closely with the Service, Engineering, and Parts teams to ensure vehicles are delivered properly, operate as designed, and meet customer expectations.

Frequent travel is required.

Responsibilities Customer & Field Support
  • Assist with new vehicle deliveries and ensure all components and accessories are complete.
  • Provide on-site training to customer personnel on proper operation and maintenance of vehicle systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and component‑related issues in the field.
  • Document issues, identify shortages, and follow through to resolution.
  • Serve as a liaison between customers, dealers, and internal departments.
  • Support periodic vehicle inspections and assist with complex field repairs.
Technical Support
  • Coordinate with the Service Department on delivery readiness and field concerns.
  • Review shop orders prior to delivery for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations related to recurring repair or design concerns.
  • Initiate documentation for engineering changes when applicable.
  • Maintain service reports, history records, and required documentation.
Training & Documentation
  • Assist in developing training materials such as manuals, videos, and instructional aids.
  • Prepare and distribute training materials and evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Identify training needs and recommend updates to programs or materials.
Travel
  • Frequent travel to customer and dealer locations for deliveries, training, inspections, and service support.
  • Occasional international travel may be required.
Position Expectations
  • Follow all company safety policies and properly use PPE.
  • Perform work in accordance with company quality standards and 5S practices.
  • Maintain a professional image when representing the company at customer sites.
  • Be flexible with schedule and work hours based on travel and customer needs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and Lean initiatives.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with internal and external partners.
Requirements (education, experience, travel, physical, work environment)

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two (2) years of technical or trade school education in mechanics, electrical systems, hydraulics, engines, or related field OR minimum five (5) years of field service experience (fire apparatus experience preferred).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to train customers effectively.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Valid driver's license required. Class B CDL‑ highly preferred
  • Ability to travel frequently.
  • Valid passport - highly preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 40 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work in shop and field environments, including exposure to moving equipment, heights, heat, and chemicals.
  • Visual acuity required for mechanical work and vehicle operation.
