Waste Connections is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair our waste collection fleet. In this Skilled Labor role, you'll perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel trucks and hydraulic equipment, complete preventive maintenance, and ensure DOT and safety compliance. You'll work in a safety-focused, team environment with stable hours, competitive pay, and strong benefits, while supporting essential environmental services and long-term career growth opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel trucks and waste collection equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance, including fluid changes, filters, and safety checks
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and braking systems
- Complete work orders and maintenance records accurately and on time
- Ensure all work meets company, DOT, and safety standards
- Collaborate with drivers and operations to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
- Participate in ongoing training and follow environmental and waste-handling procedures
Required Skills
- Diesel engine diagnostics and repair
- Hydraulic system troubleshooting and repair
- Heavy truck brake and suspension service
- Electrical systems diagnosis (12/24
- V)
- Preventive maintenance on commercial trucks
- Use of diagnostic software and scan tools
- Welding and basic fabrication
- Reading and interpreting service manuals and schematics
- Shop and OSHA/DOT safety practices
- Maintenance documentation and work order systems
