Laborer Rail Crew

Summary

This position involves various general labor duties on a rail yard crew, including shoveling, sweeping, operating hand tools and heavy equipment, and moving materials as directed. Experience in the rail or aggregate industries is helpful. Through company‑provided training and work experience, the Rail Crew Laborer seeks certification as a full‑charge Rail Specialist. During orientation, the Laborer applies for the CNYX Rail Conductor Program and may advance to the Rail Specialist and subsequently the CNYX Locomotive Engineer Training Program if accepted into the Program.

• Ensure Health & Safety standards are met by complying with legislation, company policies, and promoting a safe work environment.
• Perform assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
• Operate basic equipment as instructed.
• Follow instructions and work as part of a team.
• Maintain regular attendance. The job duties described herein are not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

• High School diploma or GED preferred; related experience is a plus.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
• Basic math skills required.
• Valid driver’s license meeting FRA and company standards.
• Loader experience preferred; computer experience preferred.
• Physical requirements:
  
  walk, stand, lift up to 100 lbs., climb ladders up to 30 ft., and perform other physical tasks as needed.
• Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

The employee is frequently required to stand, lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted, push, pull, reach, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is also occasionally required to sit, kneel, crouch, and must climb a ladder at heights up to 30 feet. Vertical and horizontal distances, as well as movements at such heights, are regular.

Work may involve exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme cold and/or heat, and outdoor weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Shift differential may apply.
