JOB DESCRIPTION
Transportation Dispatchers are responsible for performing multiple functions for Transportation Bus Operations including but not limited to taking ADA reservations for paratransit trips, answering calls for information on transit and radio communications, dispatching bus drivers for assignment and distribution of tickets.
WORK SCHEDULEIncludes nights, weekends, and holidays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Answers phone, handles radio communications, schedules ADA trips, assigns bus operators to buses, distributes tickets to drivers
- Performs administrative/clerical work including records of daily sales, attendance records of drivers, complete and review accident and incident reports, handles lost and found and records inventory, and prepares breakdown sheets and pre‑trip inspection logs
- Records phone calls submitting compliments and complaints, answers requests for information, and coordinates communication between Operations, Service Center, and Administration
- Assists the Bus Operations Manager and Transportation Dispatch Manager with initial daily oversight of drivers as they present for work including review of uniform, readiness for shift and needed tickets and information
- Assures Bus Repair Status Report and readiness of fleet for the Internal Controller as a liaison between the Vehicle Techs, the Bus Cleaners, and the Service Center
- A high school Diploma or general education degree (GED); or three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three (3) years of experience in a transportation dispatch position or related field
- Position requires excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate calmly, clearly and effectively
- Must be able to pass pre‑employment and random Drug & Alcohol tests
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Hourly rate $18.43 for new transportation dispatchers and $18.80 for returning transportation dispatchers (who meet specified requirements)
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate both verbally and in written forms of English.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSThe ability to add and subtract three-digit numbers, and multiply and divide by quarters, halves, dollars, tens and hundreds. The applicant must be able to perform these operations using units of American money.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Applicant must have the ability to deal with problems involving many variables in standard situations.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit and have basic computer skills, reach with hands and arms, be able to lift up to 25 pounds, have good customer service skills to communicate with the public and up to 200 employees of various positions, and utilize basic math and writing skills. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and the ability to focus.
