Public Works / Maintenance Job
Under supervision of a Supervisor, performs a variety of routine maintenance and repair tasks involved in maintaining public facilities, may serve in a lead capacity over a small group of seasonal Laborers.
Performs a variety of routine maintenance and repair tasks in one or more of the following areas: masonry, plastering, carpentry painting, plumbing, sheet metal, electrical, glazing, mechanical, HVAC, turf maintenance, or other types of maintenance work; may drive a truck or car to transport people and supplies; may set up for and clean up after special events; performs other related duties as required.
Some knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods, practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in performing general maintenance and repair work. Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions; take safety precautions in performing the work; obtain, store, safeguard, distribute, and properly use equipment, materials, and supplies; maintain simple records; learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units;
read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
Valid New Jersey State Driver's license preferred. Minimum age requirement: 18.
Powered and non-powered hand tools, turf maintenance equipment, may drive a car or pickup truck.
Position requires employee to continuously use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk or hear, and lift up to 10 lbs.; frequently stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch, reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 25 lbs.; and occasionally sit, smell for odors, and lift up to 50 lbs. Special vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and ability to adjust focus.
Frequently work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and in outdoor weather conditions such as sun, heat, wind, and rain; and occasionally work in high precarious places, be exposed to vibration and risk of electrical shock. Employee is exposed to loud noise and may work in small areas in awkward bodily position. The work physical demands and work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
