The Patient Care Associate provides basic nursing care (personal and restorative care) to patients according to predefined guidelines and a plan of care established by a Registered Nurse or LPN. Supervision is provided by the RN or LPN. All duties are performed in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures, policies, accreditation organization requirements, and governing guidance.

High school diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of a Nurse Assistant/Aide program is preferred.

Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification recognized by the State of Mississippi Department of Health preferred. CNA certification required upon hire for SNF unit. Apprentices transferring to SNF are allowed 120 days to schedule the skills exam; if not obtained within 120 days, they will be removed from the SNF unit.

Must complete and maintain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification upon hire and/or transfer.

Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days) and maintain an appropriate level of de-escalation training.

Equivalent related work experience or completion of a Nurse Aide program is required.

Registered Nurse or LPN responsible for patient care management during a shift.

The work is moderately active, involving sitting and frequent movement within the facility, and occasionally traveling to another facility within the SRHS service area. Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling are involved with negligible force. Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues may carry infectious disease hazards. Tasks involve repetitive motions with the wrists, hands, and fingers while operating standard office equipment. Visual acuity is required for both computer monitoring and close reading.

Ability to work extended periods without undue fatigue and adhere to schedule changes is required.

Requires keen mental faculties, assessment and decision-making abilities, superior communication skills, emotional stability, and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and ability to multitask in complex situations, maintain collaborative relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations is necessary.

Superior customer service skills, professional etiquette, computer proficiency (keyboard, MS Outlook, Word) and use of other office technology such as telephone and fax. Clinical judgment and appropriate professional skills are required for a patient population of all ages.
