Account Technician
The City of Oceanside is accepting applications for the position of ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN
. There is currently one vacancy in the Financial Services Department. The successful candidate will maintain accurate records, optimize city-wide financial transactions, and support fiscal operations.
- Maintain and balance general and subsidiary accounting ledgers, including journal entries and postings.
- Close and balance accounts, perform bank reconciliations, audit cash receipts and disbursements.
- Prepare statements, reports, spreadsheets, and budgets according to specific reporting formats and accounting principles.
- Analyze accounts, grants, bonds, and revenues; assist in preparing the department budget.
- Create and monitor new accounts, research computer errors, and make corrections.
- Assist professional staff in collecting accounting information and formulating related reports.
- Process invoices for payment, maintain vendor files, and lead accounting clerical personnel as needed.
- Notarize loan documents and perform related duties as assigned.
- Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.
- Principles and procedures of financial recordkeeping and reporting.
- Applicable computer software and programs.
- Methods, practices, and terminology used in preparing and maintaining accounting reports.
- Principles and procedures of advanced accounting and investments.
- Understand and interpret the principles, laws and procedures involved in financial recordkeeping and clerical accounting functions.
- Analyze existing procedures and recommend new service delivery methods.
- Prepare clear and concise reports.
- Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Maintain mental capacity to make sound decisions and demonstrate intellectual capabilities.
- Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception necessary for successful performance of duties.
Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible technical accounting experience, preferably in a municipal accounting environment.
Training: Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade, supplemented by college-level coursework in accounting or a related field.
Environmental and Physical Conditions- Office environment; exposure to computer screens and telephones.
- Essential functions may require prolonged sitting, use of headsets while working, speaking, and hearing to exchange information.
