Position Details:
The Public Information Office (PIO) would like to build a pool of substitute Receptionist/Switchboard Operators to serve as receptionist at the information desk when needed. The assignment will be on an on-call basis, with substitutes potentially being contacted on short notice about a shift.

Salary Range: 9

Compensation: $21.92 per hour (range 9, step
1).

Benefits:
Short-term, temporary employees may be eligible for Healthy Families Sick Leave, and enrollment in a retirement system.

Position Term in Months:
Varies; on-call

    Offer of employment is contingent upon:

    * Individuals are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the second dose in a 2-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine.

    Retired STRS members are not eligible for this position.

    Responsibilities
    • Under the direction of the Director of Public & Governmental Relations, Marketing and Communications, serve as receptionist at the information desk in the lobby of the Administration Building, answer questions and provide information to the public both in person and in response to telephone calls.
    • Answer telephones, route calls; take messages.
    • Greet visitors, provide routine information and assistance to students, employees, and the general public.
    • Provide information to callers and visitors to the building, including assistance with directions to the college and to specific campus locations and determining the appropriate college department or staff member to assist the caller/campus visitor.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Knowledge Of:
      District organization, operations, policies and objectives; telephone techniques and etiquette; oral communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; modern office practices, procedures and equipment; operation of a computer and Microsoft applications, particularly the internet and Outlook.
    • Ability To:
      Learn to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures; learn names and locations of personnel served by the switchboard; learn programs and services offered by the college to appropriately direct callers and campus visitors; understand and follow oral and written directions; analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action; respond to emergency calls; use good judgment; speak clearly;

      establish and maintain cooperative relationships; communicate effectively; work as a team; demonstrate sensitivity to diverse issues.
    Education & Experience

    Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.

    Physical & Working Conditions
    • Primarily sedentary with intermittent standing, walking, bending and stooping; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds; computer work; travel to district locations as needed.
    • Ability to work in an office environment with frequent interruptions; may work at district locations during day/evening hours; occasional evenings/weekends on an as-needed basis; occasional travel.
