Applications are invited to build a pool of instructors for possible future part-time assignments at all locations. Instructors may be assigned to any campus or authorized facility. Assignments may include days, evenings, or weekends. Applications are valid through June 30, 2023; a new pool posting will be posted on July 1, 2023, and interested applicants should reapply.

  • Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences, chemistry, biochemistry or engineering, and two years of full-time related professional experience.
  • OR a valid appropriate California Community College Credential in the discipline area.
  • OR the equivalent*.
  • AND have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students.

    Position Responsibilities

    Under direction, plan, organize and teach assigned courses in an instructional field or discipline in accordance with approved course outlines, education code requirements and faculty contract provisions; provide feedback and guidance to students and evaluate student performance; and perform related duties as assigned.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize and develop instructional materials including presentations, lectures, demonstrations, homework, laboratory exercises and projects aligned with course outlines; use sound pedagogical methods; adapt to diverse student needs; participate in development, assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLOs); use instructional technologies to enrich learning; review and select textbooks/materials.
  • Provide prompt feedback on assignments; evaluate performance; assign grades and maintain records; submit grades and other records by established deadlines.
  • Be available to students by phone, email, LMS, or in person; hold office hours as established; refer students to campus resources when needed.
  • Maintain accurate course records, attendance, and data using course management software; submit attendance and records by deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Collaborate with department chairs and faculty to participate in policy, standards, and curricula development; substitute for other faculty as needed.
  • Participate in campus life, attend meetings, and serve on committees or task forces as appropriate.
  • Meet professional responsibilities in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Other Duties:

  • Stay current in the academic discipline, including licensure or continuing education where appropriate.
  • May arrange/lead field trips or events related to the course of study.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Theory, concepts and conventions applicable to assigned disciplines.
  • Teaching and instructional techniques for diverse learners.
  • Educational technologies and course management systems (e.g., Blackboard).
  • State education code, Title 5 and related curriculum requirements.
  • Instructional methods for diverse student populations, including those with disabilities.
  • District organization, policies and resources to support student success.
  • Safety policies and safe work practices.
  • Physical, Emotional & Working Conditions

    The position is primarily sedentary with occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, computer use, and potential travel between district locations; environmental factors include classroom and office settings with possible public contact and variable schedules including evenings/weekends.
