Position Details

The college is accepting applications for an instructor to teach the following class: DNCE 130, 131, 230 - MIDDLE EASTERN DANCE I, II, III. Fall Semester 2021 (late-start class Sept - Dec). Mondays, 6:00 pm - 7:20 pm. Oceanside Campus.

Description

This combined course provides a concentrated study of Middle Eastern dance within its cultural context. Students learn dance techniques, correct alignment, body isolations, arm movements, and rhythmic coordination necessary to perform Middle Eastern dances. Topics include Raqs al Baladi, Raqs Sharqi, Taqsim and basic drum solo patterns. The course includes basic Middle Eastern rhythms and covers both traditional and contemporary influences.

The more advanced courses include learning dance choreographies, more complex drum solos, playing finger cymbal patterns, and veil work.

Compensation is based on education.   • If needed to meet the minimum qualifications, a copy (front and back) of your fully satisfied, lifetime California Community College credential authorizing service in the appropriate discipline.

1) submission of a current TB test clearance,
2) proof of eligibility to work in the United States,
3) fingerprint clearance, and
4) submission of official transcripts indicating appropriate degree(s) awarded or submission of a valid appropriate California Community College credential.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theater with dance emphasis;
  • OR master’s degree in Theatre and Dance (Dance Theatre) – an approved comparable degree at Mira Costa College;
  • OR bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND master’s degree in physical education, any life science, physiology, theater arts, kinesiology, humanities, performing arts, or music;
  • OR a valid appropriate California Community College Credential in the discipline area;
  • OR the equivalent*.

AND have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications

Basic Function:

Under direction, plan, organize and teach assigned courses in an instructional field or discipline in accordance with approved course outlines, education code requirements and faculty contract provisions; provide feedback and guidance to students and evaluate student performance; and perform related duties as assigned.
