Overview
The Person nel Commission announces an open and promotional recruitment to establish an integrated eligibility list. Promotional candidates will receive seniority points added to final passing scores, up to a maximum of 5 points. The list will be used to fill current and future vacancies and will remain active for one year or until canceled. Multiple positions (30 hours/week, 10-month contracts) are available at various school sites.
Candidates will work under the supervision of a site administrator and daily direction of a credentialed teacher to provide instructional support and assistance to students receiving special education services, including social, emotional, behavioral, and personal care needs.
- Provide instructional support and assistance to teachers and students receiving special education services.
- Perform instructional support activities related to behavior management and other related special education services.
- Reinforce and support instruction to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Learn and utilize methods and procedures to be followed in an instructional setting.
- Assist with instruction and related activities in a classroom or assigned learning environment.
- Understand, interpret, apply, and follow rules, regulations, standards, and procedures.
- Perform clerical duties related to classroom activities.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Maintain professional, cooperative, and effective working relationships with others.
- Work confidentially and with discretion as required.
- High school graduation or equivalent, with extensive and demonstrated experience (paid or volunteer) working with children.
- Knowledge of principles and practices related to students receiving special education services, including behaviors, issues, and concerns.
- Bachelor’s or higher education is a plus; specific coursework in special education is advantageous.
- Valid CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification.
- Valid certifications from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or district‑approved provider for First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and AED.
- Current, valid California driver’s license (required for some positions).
- Basic instructional methods and techniques, classroom safety practices, and correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Basic record‑keeping techniques and familiarity with classroom procedures.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and work within scope of authority.
- Positions may be assigned to classroom duty or support one student for any portion of the workday, as documented in the student’s IEP.
Effective January 1, 2024, paper applications are no longer being accepted. Written testing will be conducted by invitation only; candidates invited to participate will be notified by e‑mail approximately 7–14 calendar days after the filing deadline.
