Design Applications Specialist - Oceanside, CA

Job Description

A successful Design Applications Specialist understands the requirements of a project by reviewing construction documents and specifications. The DAS communicates with sales agents/customers to design factory drawing layouts that meet the project’s application. Requested deliverables include factory submittal drawings, lighting layouts, and/or 3D models.

• Design factory drawings based on construction documents, project specifications, and sales agent or customer directives, including fixture schedules, detailed views, and single‑line diagrams (60%).
• Possess and maintain a solid understanding of Alight product lines and Acuity controls product portfolio (10%).
• Manage own workload to ensure projects are completed on schedule, under manager supervision (10%).
• Support sales agents/customers with project‑specific technical questions regarding product applications (10%).
• Collaborate and assist on special projects through teams and/or on‑site meetings with ASM, Engineering, Design and Development, and Inside Sales teams (5%).
• Actively contribute to a culture of problem solving and continuous improvement (5%).

High School/GED

Bachelor’s Degree or relevant technical experience; 0–2 years of experience.

• Strong design and analytical abilities.
• Basic/Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (including Illustrator) and AutoCAD.
• Problem‑solving skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of engineering documents.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work semi‑remotely (required on‑site 2 days a week minimum).

• Basic/Intermediate knowledge of Solid Works (a plus).
• Customer‑facing experience.

Medium work – exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
