Job Description

As an Advanced Medical Office Clerk, you'll help patients access primary, specialty, and subspecialty care while supporting accurate medical record workflows within an on-site military healthcare facility in the Oceanside area. Working with patients, healthcare providers, and clinic staff, you'll coordinate appointments, verify patient information, maintain medical records, and provide responsive administrative support.

    Up to $5.09 per hour, in accordance with the Service Contract Act (SCA)

Schedule:

Eight-hour shifts scheduled within 6:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday, excluding federal holidays.

Key Responsibilities
  • Answer telephone calls, route callers appropriately, and take accurate messages.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel primary, specialty, and subspecialty care appointments.
  • Verify patient eligibility and demographic information, provide appointment instructions, and direct patients to appropriate departments.
  • Maintain patient schedules, appointment logs, medical records, and tracking information; obtain, organize, file, retrieve, deliver, and archive records in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Review patient records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, and obtain missing results or documentation requested by healthcare providers.
  • Compile medical record data, prepare statistics, and support quality-assurance reviews.
  • Use military healthcare and eligibility systems, including AHLTA, CHCS, MHS GENESIS, and DEERS.
Qualifications Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • At least one year of medical office scheduling, medical office, or other relevant experience; alternatively, RHIT or RHIA certification.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to type at least 50 words per minute.
  • Administrative and clerical skills, including receptionist duties, telephone support, customer service, written communication, and use of standard office equipment and software.
  • Knowledge of general medical ethics and applicable Joint Commission and Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care standards related to complete, timely, and accurate health records.
  • Ability to obtain authorization to access a military installation and be issued a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Ability to perform work involving extended sitting, standing, walking, or bending; use a step ladder to retrieve records; and carry materials weighing 25–50 pounds, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
