Position: Media Production Associate (Part-time) Instructor Pool 2021 - 2022

To accept, review and process a variety of legal documents for filing or recording for the Superior Court.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
  • Receive legal documents for filing, processing or for judge's signature
  • Review legal documents for completeness and determine conformity with government codes
  • Return unacceptable documents for proper completion and contact parties involved
  • Set cases on court calendar if required
  • Issue and process abstracts of Judgment and Writs of Execution
  • Issue summonses and subpoenas
  • Prepare, post and mail notices to parties and attorneys
  • Maintain liaison function with a variety of persons, judges, officials, and local / state departments and agencies
  • Coordinate with appellate courts, attorneys and judges in the preparation of transcripts and case files on appeals
  • Collect and accurately receipt fees and make correct change if necessary
  • May assist in training employees in processing and reviewing documents
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for information from attorneys, other departments and the general public, including searching records
  • Use automated equipment, such as a personal computer, to enter and obtain legal filing information
  • May index documents filed and enter in register of actions
  • Receive and sort daily mail
  • May receive exhibits
  • May file, date, stamp or retrieve files
  • May undertake and complete a variety of legal office assistance projects requiring initiative and the maintenance of confidentiality
  • Collect and accurately receipt fees and make correct change if necessary
  • May receive various court documents
  • Attend staff and other work-related meetings, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education opportunities
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Education / Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be an educational equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade AND two years of increasingly responsible clerical experience including one year clerical work providing a background in legal processes and/or court procedures with extensive public contact involving responsibility for receiving and processing legal documents.

  • Operation of personal computers sufficient to enter and obtain information
  • Filing procedures for civil, criminal, probate and juvenile court
  • Communicate with a variety of people of various educational and socioeconomic backgrounds using patience, tact, courtesy and restraint
  • Give clear verbal and written instructions
  • Check all documents for accuracy and completeness
  • Keyboard at 35 wpm
  • Prepare clear, concise letters and memoranda
  • Organize work, establish priorities, remain flexible and tolerant under changes in workloads and assignments
  • Use business telephone etiquette
  • Establish rapport and effective working relationships with fellow employees
  • Assist customers and make decisions regarding specific questions or procedures
  • Work under limited supervision
  • Speak, read and write a language other than English if assigned or required
