Position: NEW PARENT SUPPORT HOME VISITOR NF4

Family Advocacy Program (FAP) New Parent Support Program (NPSP) Home Visitor

Primary duties of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) New Parent Support Program (NPSP) Home Visitor will be to:

  • Perform support services via home visits and classroom settings designed to provide psychological and educational support to parents of children ages zero to five to include education in:
  • Positive parenting skills
  • Promoting healthy pregnancy
  • Promoting positive parent-child attachment behaviors
  • Recognizing newborn infant cues/behaviors
  • Promoting effective couple communication in order to promote healthy relationships and prevent family violence
  • Provide information and education on services and resources available
  • Refer parents to appropriate military and civilian agencies for assistance and support for:
  • Assessment of at-risk behaviors
  • Enhancing the parents’ role in parenting a newborn/child
  • Role modeling and mentoring
  • Any medical concerns
  • Plan, develop, and implement programming designed to build and enhance strengths that individuals and families bring to the parenting role to enhance parent-child attachment
  • Develop and deliver parent education programs to foster skill development, aid in child abuse prevention, and promote good overall mental health
  • Conduct standardized screenings and assessments of families receiving services and collaborates with related agencies to offer appropriate and necessary services
  • Provide early intervention services to parents and families at-risk
  • Conduct ongoing risk assessment
  • Reports suspected abuse as required by policy and law
  • Collaborate with the family and appropriate agencies to develop methods to achieve prescribed goals and enhance successful parenting
  • Consult with local hospital professionals regarding aspects of abuse and identification of at-risk individuals and families
  • Attends and participates in the clinical case staff meeting as requested
  • Establish and maintain professional contacts to stay abreast of: research, education, training and clinical practice to enhance and maintain the NPSP
