Assistant Controller

Compensation: $120,000–$140,000 + Annual Bonus
Location: Orlando, FL (Onsite)

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an Assistant Controller to join a rapidly growing construction organization. This highly visible position serves as the Controller's primary business partner, helping oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, and strategic initiatives while supporting the company's continued expansion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Controller to oversee daily accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while meeting reporting deadlines
  • Prepare and review financial statements, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Review work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, job costing, over billings, under billings, and percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Coordinate annual financial statement audits and serve as the primary contact for external auditors
  • Analyze financial performance, investigate variances, and provide recommendations to leadership
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable, Billing, Collections, and Operations to improve workflows and strengthen internal controls
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process improvements, and operational efficiencies
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, acquisitions, and other strategic finance initiatives
  • Mentor and support members of the accounting team while preparing to assume expanded leadership responsibilities
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong background in construction accounting is required
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring, supervising, or managing accounting professionals, even without direct reports today
  • Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Knowledge of work-in-progress reporting, job costing, over billings, under billings, and percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Experience supporting annual external audits
  • Familiarity with construction ERP systems
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting controls, and financial reporting
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to work independently while building strong partnerships across departments
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship
