This role supports multiple commercial construction divisions, including air vapor barrier, hot-applied systems, traffic coatings, insulation, and specialty new construction work. You will perform physically demanding general and construction labor tasks such as demolition, material handling, and assisting skilled trades on large, high-profile projects in the Madison area. The position requires regular lifting of up to 70 pounds and safe use of hand and power tools in outdoor commercial jobsite environments.
Responsibilities
- Assist with a wide range of general and construction labor tasks across multiple commercial divisions, including air vapor barrier, hot-applied systems, traffic coatings, insulation, and specialty construction.
- Perform demolition work, including removing existing materials and preparing work areas for new construction activities.
- Move, load, and unload construction materials and equipment, transporting them safely to designated locations on the jobsite.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to support installation, demolition, and other construction activities.
- Read and use a tape measure accurately to assist with measurements, layout, and material cutting.
- Support commercial insulation work, including blow-in or spray insulation, under the direction of experienced team members.
- Work outdoors 100% of the time in a variety of weather conditions, maintaining productivity and safety in heat, cold, rain, and other elements.
- Report to the shop at the designated start time, ride in company trucks to jobsites, and remain flexible for potential travel outside the immediate Madison area.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and help maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
- Collaborate with small crews of 1–3 people, communicate effectively with teammates and supervisors, and follow instructions promptly.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance by showing up every day and on time, maintaining a consistent work schedule from early morning through late afternoon.
- Maintain and care for basic personal tools required for the job, ensuring they are available and in good working condition each day.
Essential Skills
- At least 6 months of construction experience, including working in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 70 pounds as part of daily job duties.
- Experience performing general labor or construction labor tasks such as demolition and material handling.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately for construction measurements.
- Comfort and familiarity with using hand tools and power tools safely on a construction site.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a 5-panel drug test.
- Strong attendance record and reliability, including consistently showing up every day and on time.
- Willingness to work outdoors 100% of the time in all types of weather.
- Openness to some travel beyond the Madison area as needed for job assignments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with commercial construction environments and commercial jobsites.
- Exposure to or experience with insulation work, including blow-in or spray applications.
- Familiarity with epoxy use in construction settings.
- Interest in growing into lead-type roles as skills and experience increase.
- Ability to work effectively in small teams of 1–3 people.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to take direction from supervisors and experienced crew members.
