Department: Municipal Court Reports To: Municipal Court Supervisor
Summary: The Summer Intern position offers students and early‑career professionals the opportunity to gain practical, hands‑on experience in municipal government. Interns will assist with assigned projects, support daily operations, and develop professional skills while working under the guidance of City staff.
The Summer Intern assigned to the Municipal Court will support daily operations and assist with departmental projects, gaining hands‑on experience in reviewing cases to verify clients are meeting requirements. The intern will participate in citation processing.
Essential Functions- Assists Court clients and performs a variety of customer service duties within the scope of authority and training.
- Follows court policies and procedures for specific Court duties; receives and processes documents and payments, updates data on secure databases, and releases documents; performs duties in compliance with court administrative orders, regulations, and standards; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Reviews cases to verify clients are meeting court‑ordered requirements.
- Maintains the absolute confidentiality of all records and information.
- Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work‑related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Must be at least 16 years of age. Currently enrolled in high school; college course enrollment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Entering data into a computer system with skill and accuracy and maintaining electronic records and files.
- Providing effective customer service and dealing tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Interns will work up to 40 hours per week. Schedule may vary based on departmental needs and availability. Work is performed in an office, field, or operational setting, depending on assignment. May include sitting, standing, walking, or light physical activity.
Internship DurationTemporary, seasonal position (Summer Internship Program). Start and end dates will be determined by the department and HR.
Salary: $15.00 per hour
