Summary: The Summer Intern position offers students and early-career professionals the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in municipal government. Interns will assist with assigned projects, support daily operations, and develop professional skills while working under the guidance of City staff. The Summer Intern assigned to the Parks & Recreation department will support daily operations and assist with departmental projects, gaining hands‑on experience in event planning and execution for the Recreation team.
EssentialFunctions
- Responsible for assisting the Recreation team with event planning, preparation, and execution for events and functions.
- Support daily operational tasks and administrative functions.
- Provide customer service or internal support, as applicable.
- Attend meetings, trainings, or site visits as assigned.
- Follow all City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsEducation, Training and Experience Guidelines: Must be at least 16 years of age. Currently enrolled in high school; college course enrollment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Enrollment in a field related to the assigned department.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office or relevant tools.
- Interest in public service or municipal government.
- Organizational & prioritization skills.
- Willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Accountability.
- Sensitivity to Corporate needs, employee goodwill, and business needs.
License and certification requirements: None.
Physical demands and working environments: Interns will work up to 40 hours per week. Schedule may vary based on departmental needs and availability. Willing to work with a school schedule. Work is performed in an office, field, or operational setting, depending on assignment. May include sitting, standing, walking, or light physical activity. Some evenings and weekends may be required (based on programs and events).
Internship Duration: Temporary, seasonal position (Summer Internship Program). Start and end dates will be determined by the department and HR.
