The University of Texas Permian Basin's Department of Literature & Languages welcomes applications for the position of Media and Outreach Coordinator - Military Veteran NEH Grant. This position is temporary and part-time.
Salary Range
$17.51 an hour
Five hours a week
Essential Functions
Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator, this is an exciting opportunity to join a highly collaborative and
supportive team at The University of Texas Permian Basin, a part of the prestigious 14 institution University of
Texas System. The Part-Time Staff Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and placing all orders,
arranging for the locations of the preparatory program and discussion groups, and assisting Dr. Babcock with all
aspects of the grant. This position offers the potential for a limited hybrid working arrangement. A remote
schedule is possible for highly qualified candidates. Occasional trips to Odessa will be expected.
The Mending Mental Gaps initiative is part of the Dialogues on the
Experience of War program with the
National Endowment for the Humanities. In this project, veterans engage in discussions of war and military
themed literature, especially graphic novels, poems, memoir, and fiction. Themes include honor, camaraderie,
displacement, mental gaps during moments of trauma, and the second shock of homecoming. This position
offers a unique opportunity to support this program and other veterans.
1. Check UTPB Teams and email daily. Maintain organized files on Teams.
2. Recruit participants for discussion groups and discussion leaders.
3. Scout locations for discussion groups; secure those locations.
4. Coordinate with event sites, discussion leaders and discussants. Keep communication open whether by text,
email, direct message, etc.
5. Assist with publicity and marketing of events including attending community gatherings as able.
6. Attend discussion leader training as able.
7. Coordinate external grant activity such as soliciting donations of food for refreshments, etc.
8. Brainstorm and collaborate with key grant staff in regular meetings, both in-person and online.
9. Assist with all needed aspects of the grant.

Required Qualifications
1. High School diploma or equivalency.
2. Military Veteran, any branch or rank.
3. Communication skills in person, online, and on phone.
4. Must be organized, a self-starter and able to follow up and complete tasks independently.
Preferred Qualifications
1. AA or BA degree
2.
Experience with social media, multimedia, computer software and hardware applications

4. Reliable transportation

Schedule
Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm;
Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.
Standard Working Conditions
1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
