Used Equipment Manager

About the Role The Used Equipment Manager is responsible for directing and managing the activities of the organization’s used equipment function, obtaining optimum efficiency, and maximizing profits by executing tasks personally or via delegation to others.

• Manage personnel resources to ensure that the multitude of inquiries and requests are handled efficiently.
• Respond to employees, customers and Caterpillar in a timely manner with accurate information to achieve satisfactory solutions.
• Prepare necessary reports, summaries, and other information designed to provide accurate data to management.
• Handle customer complaints and resolve them in a timely manner.
• Manage people, assets, and financials.
• Research and develop resources that create timely and efficient workflow.
• Supervise multiple employees, carrying out responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints.
• Set trade values based on inspections and photos submitted.
• Source inventory for in‑territory sales through sources such as CRSI, other dealers, customer purchases, auctions, etc.
• Set and maintain prices on company used equipment assets.
• Supervise the inspectors and the inspection process in general.
• Partner with sales coordinators and shops to get machines through the make‑ready process and prepared for sale on a timely basis.
• Work with rental supervision on rental fleet pricing, retirements, machine sourcing, etc.
• Manage all lease‑returned machines, processing them through shops, documenting and invoicing damage repairs, re‑pricing and marketing the lease return inventory.
• Dispose of machines out of territory as appropriate, including the sale of certain trades, slow‑moving inventory, and other items to dealers, brokers, and auctions.
• Set buyback repurchase numbers as requested by sales managers.
• Interface directly with customers on a daily basis.
• Maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrate positivity, professionalism, flexibility and effective communication skills in interactions with others.
• Proactively establish effective relationships and support others in achieving high performance.
• Spend a large portion of the workday communicating orally in person and by phone.

• Bachelor’s degree or one to two years related experience and/or training.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Understanding of organization and business‑related products and equipment.
• General computer literacy a plus.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Professionalism and diplomacy to handle emotional or ambiguous situations with clarity and self‑control.
