Position Information
Construction Inspector I, II, III or IV (Odessa Area) – (2600270). The role reports to the Odessa Area Office and involves trained construction inspectors working in a diverse staff of licensed engineers, inspectors, designers, recordkeepers, and engineering assistants.
Salary RangeMinimum: 45,521.00
Maximum: 87,046.00
Pay BasisYearly (FLSA Status: Nonexempt)

TravelYes, approximately 10 % of the time.
ShiftDay Job – 40 hrs, Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

ResponsibilitiesInspects construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Acts as a consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution. May serve as the only inspector on a construction project or assist in overseeing construction inspection activities for very large or complex projects. Provides statewide construction inspection activities for ongoing airport improvement projects (where applicable).
Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work. Work requires contact with contractors.
May perform materials tests and manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Construction Inspector I- Attends pre‑construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees.
- Calculates payments due to contractors for work completed.
- Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans, ensuring compliance with approved safety standards. Inspects barricades as required, moves traffic control devices and barricades.
- Observes and inspects ongoing construction work.
- Resolves differences in interpretation of plans and specifications.
- Documents work progress and issues arising throughout the scope of the project.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Same duties as level I plus:
- Handles problem calls from producers, suppliers, inspectors and construction project field personnel.
- Ensures adequate level of equipment and material are assigned to projects. Ensures material tests are performed and materials meet required standards.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Same duties as levels I and II plus:
- Ensures prompt notification and repair of any deterioration or damage that could be hazardous to the traveling public or more costly to repair if neglected.
- Prepares and reviews correspondence.
- Assists in engineering‑related data collection, inspections, assessments, analysis, and review activities for plan development by others.
- Resolves differences in interpretation of plans and specifications.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Same duties as levels I, II and III plus:
- Composes correspondence, reports and supporting documents; files; orders supplies and equipment.
- Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.
- Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.
- Informs plant personnel of material or production problems, rejects substandard material and assists in determining causes.
