First Alert 7 / KOSA – the top-rated, long-time news leader in Odessa‑Midland, TX – is looking for a Newscast Producer to join our news team. You’ll be responsible for creating, writing, and producing one or more of our daily broadcasts. The ideal candidate will be passionate about storytelling, demonstrate a grasp of local, regional, national, and international news, and be a professional who thrives under deadline pressure.
Duties/Responsibilities- Producing one or more daily news broadcasts, including writing, editing, and making editorial decisions about the content in each broadcast.
- Collaborating with anchors, multimedia journalists, technical media producers, digital producers, and newsroom leadership to create compelling broadcasts.
- Paying attention to breaking news and routinely incorporating those items into each broadcast.
- Understanding station and corporate‑provided research to contribute to daily story assignments, live elements and digital content in each broadcast.
- Monitoring newswires, social media and email for story ideas and updates.
- Assisting in copy editing with special attention to journalistic standards, ethical decision‑making and legal guidelines.
- Working flexible shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication or a related field; two years of comparable journalism experience also acceptable.
- Demonstrated visual storytelling experience (can include traditional broadcast and/or digital and/or social media examples).
- Demonstrated knowledge of local, regional, national and international current events.
- Current driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge and experience with standard workplace software including Microsoft applications for email and word processing; previous experience with ENPS, EDIUS, VizRT and Bit Central newsroom systems is preferred.
- Portfolio link or video link if you have previous producing experience.
