Job Summary /DescriptionFirst Alert 7 / KOSA – the top‑rated, long‑time news leader in Odessa‑Midland, TX – is looking for a Morning/Midday News Anchor to join our news team. You will be responsible for anchoring morning and midday newscasts on both broadcast and streaming channels. The ideal candidate will have previous experience anchoring and will be passionate about storytelling on a variety of platforms including broadcast, streaming, online, and social media.
Salary will be based on experience.
- Assisting in producing and anchoring multiple early morning newscasts; leading and producing the daily midday newscast.
- Collaborating with multimedia journalists (MMJ’s), newscast producers, and digital content producers to create compelling content on multiple platforms.
- Paying attention to breaking news, including regional, national, and international news, and using resources from Gray Media and others to appropriately cover those stories.
- Understanding station and corporate‑provided audience research to contribute to growing audiences on all platforms.
- Monitoring newswires, social media and email for story ideas and updates.
- Developing expertise in a specific content area sufficient to create recurring franchise reporting.
- Assist in copy editing with special attention to journalistic standards, ethical decision‑making and legal guidelines.
- Working flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication or a related field; two years of comparable journalism experience also acceptable.
- Demonstrable previous news gathering experience including on‑camera performance; previous news anchoring experience preferred.
- Demonstrable writing, videography and editing experience following generally accepted AP and broadcast style.
- Demonstrated knowledge of local, regional, national and international current events.
- Current driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge and experience with standard workplace software including Microsoft applications for email and word processing.
- Previous experience with ENPS, VizRT, Edius and Bit Central newsroom systems is preferred.
